Beresford Jarrett – Chairman
As a child growing up in Sierra Leone, he experienced poverty firsthand and saw how his parents struggled to educate him despite the all the difficult challenges. Mr. Jarrett survived Sierra Leone’s ten years civil war and migrated to the United States of America in 2001. Since his arrival in USA, he has devoted his life towards helping the less fortunate in Sierra Leone and around the world. Mr Jarrett holds a PMP certification from Project Management Institute and work as a Project Manager. He is a native from Sierra Leone.
Yeabu Conteh – Secretary
Yeabu joined Me Against Poverty because she believes that if given the proper tools, communities can break the cycle of poverty. Ms. Conteh is a graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD and has a B.A. in Political Science. She is currently pursuing a Masters in graduate study in Non Profit Management. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her family. She is a native from the Distrcit of Columbia.
Andrew Mendy – Treasurer
Mr Mendy joined Me Against Poverty because he believes in helping to provide opportunities for people in need. Mr. Mendy has over 15 years of retail experience and also works as a Computer Hardware Support Technician for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with a decade of experience. When Mr. Mendy is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and kids. He has a B.S. in Information Technology from the University of Maryland. Mr. Mendy is a native of Gambia, West Africa.
Ayiku Momoh – Financial Secretary
Mr Momoh joined Me Against Poverty because he is passionate about helping the less fortunate around the world. He has extensive experience in Account and Financil Management. Mr. Momoh’s responsibility as a MAP Board member includes helping with accounting procedures. He is a native from Sierra Leone.
Robert Julyan – Board Member
When Robert Hixson Julyan arrived in Yonibana in the fall of 1965, to become the first Peace Corps Volunteer to teach at Yonibana Secondary School, he, the school, and the newly independent country all were young and optimistic. Two years later he wept to leave the people he had grown to love. Now he is seeking to reconnect with Yonibana through Me Against Poverty.
Since leaving Sierra Leone, Robert has built a career as a writer, working as a newspaper reporter, editor, and columnist, a magazine writer, a university publications editor, and the author of numerous books about history, geography, and the outdoors. Most recently he’s become a novelist, with his first work published by the University of New Mexico Press. He lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his wife of over 40 years. They have two married daughters, both classical violinists.
